ETFs Go to the Head of the Class With 529 College Savings Plan | ETF Trends

Barclays, the provider of iShares exchange traded funds (ETFs), is teaming up with Upromise Investments to create the iShares 529 Plan.

It’s available to fee-based financial advisors. Upromise is the leading provider of 529 college savings plans, and with the collaboration of the Barclays ETFs, they have successfully completed a 529 college savings plan constructed of ETFs.

The demand has been strong for this type of 529 plan, specifically from financial advisors looking for other options than what is already on the market for fee-based advisors.

There are three types of portfolios avaiable right now for the all-ETF 529 plan:

    • Year-of-Enrollment Portfolios: Based on the amount of time before a child enters college.
    • Asset Allocation Portfolios: Based on risk profile and/or desired asset allocation
    • Custom iShares Portfolios: Based on individual investing choices in domestic equity, international equity, real estate or fixed income.
