Passive Dividend ETFs Trump Active Income Mutual Funds

“While it underperformed SDY, with an average annualized three-year gain of 17.2%, HDV outperformed most active mutual funds. HDV’s three-year standard deviation, at 8.7, is modestly below the mutual fund peer average, while its Sharpe ratio of 1.84 is higher,” said S&P Capital IQ.

HDV, which joined the iShares core lineup earlier this year and now has an expense ratio of just 0.12%, has a trailing 12-month yield of 3.1% and is also rated overweight by S&P Capital IQ.
