Tom Lydon Interviews Putnam Investments' Cathy Saunders

As investors navigate the marketplace, more are realizing that traditional equity and fixed-income positions are not enough. Financial advisors have be willing to shift strategies as the markets changes.

ETF Trends’ Tom Lydon sat down with Catherine A. Saunders, Head of Registered Investment Advisory Business at Putnam Investments, to discuss alternative strategies to meet the challenges ahead.

For instance, in the fixed-income space, we have seen benchmark Treasury yields jump over 100 basis points last year.

“If you take a look at the [Barclays Aggregate Bond Index], it was down in negative territory for the first time since 1999 and down three times in the last twenty years, so that prompted a lot of questions from advisors on what to do with their fixed-income holdings,” Saunders said. “And it really boils down to not am I going to own fixed-income, but how am I going to own fixed-income.”

Advisors who are interested in more educational pieces can look at the Putnam website for their white papers.
