UNG is recovering after a multiyear slump on natural gas oversupply combined with weak demand. The ETF invests in natural gas futures so it won’t track the commodity’s spot price exactly.

“Prices are rising now due to greater demand,” writes Jonathan Yates at Smallcap Network. “More electric utility plants are switching to natural gas from coal. In addition, record heat in July has more businesses and homes cranking up the air conditioning. As a result, more electricity is needed from power plants running on natural gas.”
