Since 1990, the consumer discretionary, consumer staples and information technology sectors have usually outperformed the broader S&P 500, gaining 6.0%, 6.4% and 6.9%, respectively, compared to the S&P’s 4.7%. Energy, financials and utilities historically lagged behind, but all sectors showed positive performance.
