ETF Trends publisher Tom Lydon discussed the ProShares Long Online/Short Stores ETF (CLIX) on this week’s “ETF of the Week” podcast with Chuck Jaffe on the MoneyLife Show.
A number of secular pressures remain in traditional brick-and-mortar space as mall traffic continues to decline.
While retailers just experienced one of their best holiday sales periods in years, strong overall sales growth of over 5% was still dwarfed by a 20% jump in online sales, reflecting the ongoing shift in consumer habits to e-commerce.
CLIX combines a 100% long portfolio of on-line and non-traditional retailers with a 50% short position in bricks and mortar retailers.
Top long positions include: Amazon 24.1%, Alibaba 16.0%, Shutterfly 4.7%, Netflix 4.6%, Chegg 4.5%, Ebay 4.5%, Wayfair 4.5%, Nutrisystem 4.5%, and Groupon 4.5%.
