Van Eck Global’s Market Vectors unit said it has added two exchange traded funds to its expanding list of ETF-based depositary receipts listed in Mexico. The depositary receipts act as proxies for Market Vectors ETFs and are available to qualified investors in Mexico, Latin America’s second-largest economy.
The Market Vectors ChinaAMC A-Share ETF (NYSEArca: PEK) and the Market Vectors Russia Small-Cap ETF (NYSEArca: RSXJ) are the latest Market Vectors ETFs to become available to qualified investors in Mexico as depositary receipts. PEK is the oldest U.S.-listed ETF offering exposure to China’s A-shares equities. RSXJ is the only dedicated Russia small-cap ETF trading in the U.S. [A-Shares ETFs Gain Supporters]
The addition of PEK and RSXJ as depositary receipt offerings in Mexico brings the number of Market Vectors ETFs available under that structure in Mexico to 35. That lineup includes well-known ETFs, such as the Market Vectors Biotech ETF (NYSEArca: BBH), Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSEArca: GDX) and the Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (NYSEArca: GDXJ).
Latin America, including Mexico, has become a growth avenue for U.S.-based ETF issuers looking to drive asset growth. Last month, WisdomTree (NasdaqGS: WETF), the fifth-largest U.S. issuer of ETFs, said Mexico’s pension funds investment regulator, La Comisión Nacional del Sistema de Ahorro para el Retiro (CONSAR), approved four more WisdomTree ETFs for cross-border listing. There are now 27 WisdomTree ETFs available to Mexican pensioners.
In November, First Trust announced it received approval from CONSAR to sell the First Trust Large Cap Value Opportunities AlphaDEX Fund (NYSEArca: FTA) and the First Trust Large Cap Core AlphaDEX Fund (NYSEArca: FEX) to Mexico’s 51 million pensioners.
