Bond ETFs Dominate October Inflows

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLP) has added almost $1.5 billion in new assets this quarter, making it by far the best sector ETF in terms of fourth-quarter assets added.

The Materials Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLB) and the iShares U.S. Industrials ETF (NYSEArca: IYJ) have lost a combined $2.7 billion this quarter, which is interesting when noting materials and industrial ETFs are historically good performers in November. [Best Sector ETFs for November]

Despite lingering weakness in the oil patch, the Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLE) has added almost $271 million this quarter while the Market Vectors Oil Service ETF (NYSEArca: OIH) has seen inflows of $194.1 million.
