Led by the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (NYSEArca: BND), eight of the 25 most-owned ETFs by hedge funds are fixed income ETFs.
The SPDR Gold Shares (NYSEArca: GLD), iShares Gold Trust (NYSEArca: IAU) and the ETFS Physical Swiss Gold Shares (NYSEArca: SGOL) are the most popular commodities ETFs with hedge funds. At the end of the second quarter, John Paulson’s Paulson & Co. was the largest shareholder of GLD.
By issuer, iShares has 12 ETFs on the list followed by seven for Vanguard and two each for Market Vectors and State Street Global Advisors.
