Scottish Referendum Throws a Curve at U.K. ETFs

“There is a significant risk of bank deposits shifting abruptly out of Scotland within days of the [Yes] result,” Paul Donovan at UBS said in a Financial Times article.

The iShares ETF, EWU,  includes a 0.5% position toward RBS and 2.4% in Lloyd’s Banking Group. Additionally, EWU is exposed to other Scotland-domiciled companies, such as Standard Life 0.6%, Weir Group 0.3% and SSE Plc 0.8%
