Allure of A-Shares ETFs Grows

Earlier this month, Deutsche and Harvest Global Investments, China’s second-largest asset manager and the sub-advisor on ASHR and the Deutsche X-trackers Harvest CSI 500 China A-Shares Small Cap Fund (NYSEArca: ASHS) said they are working with “Chinese authorities to obtain an increase in RQFII quota to keep in-line with investor demand.”

Harvest is a Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (RQFII), which means it meets Chinese regulatory requirements to be a foreign owner of A-shares.

ASHS, which debuted in May, is the first U.S.-listed ETF dedicated to A-shares small-caps. The $6.4 million ETF tracks 501 small-cap offerings trading in Shanghai and Shenzhen. To be considered for inclusion in ASHS’ underlying index, securities must meet minimum liquidity requirements.
