In 2012, PIMCO successfully introduced an ETF adaptation of its flagship Total Return Fund, the PIMCO Total Return ETF (NYSEArca: BOND), which has $3.5 billion in assets under management.
The money manager recently launched two new active ETFs based of its mutual funds: the actively managed PIMCO Diversified Income Exchange-Traded Fund (NYSEArca: DI) and the PIMCO Low Duration Exchange-Traded Fund (NYSEArca: LDUR). [PIMCO Launches Two Active ETFs Based Off Mutual Funds]
Actively managed ETFs still make up a small portion of the overall industry. There are 77 active U.S.-listed ETFs on the market, with $15 billion in assets under management. In comparison, there are 1,554 U.S.-listed ETFs, with almost $1.7 trillion in assets.
