Getting Choosy With China ETFs

Low valuation opportunities in the A-shares markets can be seized with the new db X-trackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares Fund (NYSEArca: ASHR). ASHR, the first ETF to offer U.S. investors direct access to China’s A-shares, debuted in November and has surged almost 7% since Nov. 13.

ASHR, which had $191.1 million in assets as of Nov. 4, allocates about a quarter of its weight to consumer-related shares, but financials loom large at 39.5%. [An ETF to Gain Direct Access to China A-Shares]

Other A-shares ETFs include the Market Vectors China ETF (NYSEArca: PEK), the oldest of the A-shares ETF group, and the PowerShares China A-Share Portfolio (NYSEArca: CHNA). Both ETFs use derivatives to access the A-shares markets.
