Conversely, some of the largest precious metals ETFs have also experienced outflows in 2011, including SPDR Gold Shares (NYSEArca: GLD) and iShares Silver Trust (NYSEArca: SLV), with over $1 billion each, year to date through October.

At the end of October, there was nearly $1.1 trillion held in U.S.-listed exchange traded funds and notes. There were 1,350 products.

Notional trading volume in ETFs and ETNs in October totaled almost $2 trillion, representing 34% of all U.S. equity trading volume, according to NSX.
