April ETF Performance Report | ETF Trends

Markets were in full bloom in April, as corporate earnings helped push markets and exchange traded funds (ETFs) higher.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained nearly 4% this month and had its highest close since May 2008.  The S&P 500 rose about 3% and the Nasdaq gained 3.5% for the month.

Silver ETFs were the top performers for the month, with PowerShares DB Silver Fund (NYSEArca: DBS),  iShares Silver Trust (NYSEArca: SLV) and ETFS Physical Silver Shares (NYSEArca: SIVR) up nearly 30%.  Outside of the precious metal ETFs, SPDR S&P Biotech (NYSEArca: XBI) was up 14.5% in April and iShares MSCI Germany Index Fund (NYSEArca: EWG) was up 13.4%.
