Alternative-Energy ETFs Continue Rise | ETF Trends

Exchange traded funds (ETFs) that invest in alternative-energy sectors continue to climb as investors remain focused on Japan’s nuclear disaster.

The iPath Dow Jones-UBS Natural Gas Subindex Total Return ETN (NYSEArca: GAZ) was up 26.7% for the month ended April 1, according to Morningstar.

First Trust ISE Global Wind Energy Index Fund (NYSEArca: FAN) and PowerShares Global Wind Energy Portfolio (NasdaqGM: PWND) gained about 16% over the same period. [ETF Spotlight: First Trust ISE Global Wind.]

Both ETFs are small with less than $100 million in assets but the wind-energy funds were among the top percentage gainers last month. [March ETF Performance Report.]
