Ignites reports on the proliferation of exchange traded funds and how some in the industry believe there is too much growth, while others see it as an innovative opportunity.  There are currently 270 ETFs that track sectors, global regions, subsectors, commodities and alternative indexes.  This number doesn’t include ETFs in filing.

The article points out there is risk investors might not understand the specialized ETFs, but this growth is healthy since there has not been innovation in the fund industry for years.
