We helped BusinessWeek look at the newest exchange traded funds as they become more and more specialized. Recent examples include iShares Silver Trust (SLV) which tracks the price of silver and the First Trust Advisors IPOX-100 Index (FPX), which is a collection of IPOs.
On track for SEC approval are ETFs using leverage, such as the sophisticated derivatives and options used by hedge funds. ETFs currently track indexes, but it is only a matter of time before we will see actively managed ETFs.
