Morningstar points out reasons to invest in bond mutual funds over bond exchange traded funds in the article, "Think Twice Before Buying Bond ETFs". While there are some points to the article, the most important question is whether now is the time to invest in any sort of bond fund. Interest rates will continue to increase which means we’ll see lower prices in bonds. The chart below shows the 30-Year Treasury recently dropped below its long-term trend line (200-day moving average).
