FTSE Russell promoted China A-Shares to Secondary Emerging market status following its September 2018 annual country classification review.

MSCI has proposed plans to raise mainland-listed China company stock weights to 2.8% for the widely observed MSCI Emerging Index by August 2019 and 3.4% by May 2020.
“For investors who are underweight the A-share market, and agree with our long run prognosis that China needs to play a bigger part in portfolios, this could represent an opportunity to get up to weight at a time when the valuation discount is favorable,” Bush added.
