Microsoft President: Company is ‘Focused on Democratizing AI’

Brad Smith, president of Microsoft (MSFT), announced in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday that the tech giant is focusing heavily on “democratizing AI” to “every government, every business, every non-profit.” But Microsoft’s methodology when it comes to spreading its AI is unique in that the company hopes to offer others with “AI building blocks to create their own AI solutions.”

“I think that is going to be a far better strategy, not just for us as a company, but for the economy, and frankly for the world, than just telling people that if they want to use AI, they have to come do it in some self-contained box that just one or two tech companies control,” Smith said.

Smith also shared that Microsoft believes that as AI continues to develop, matters such as privacy and ethics with regards to the technology should remain a priority.

“It’s really fundamentally important for our generation of people to infuse ethics into this new generation of computing,” he said.
