Chinese retail e-commerce business Alibaba is using artificial intelligence to reshape the retail fashion industry with its FashionAI concept store.

Some of the ideas in development include using an ID code to check in to a concept store and selecting items that will automatically appear on a mirror, including mix-and-match items for a more personalized shopping experience. While shopping customers can simply add items to a virtual cart prior to trying them on.

On the back end, real-time analytics can allow staff to move faster, provide efficient customer service and allow brands to maintain their inventory. When trying on clothes, customers can use the touch-screen mirror to adjust items to suit their needs, such as size or color.

This represents just a smidgen of how Alibaba is using artificial intelligence. The company is already in the works to develop a content-creation AI that can be used to generate product information.
