Bitwise Asset Management, the investment firm that pioneered the first privately-offered cryptocurrency index fund, and Mark Yusko’s Morgan Creek Capital Management unveiled the The Digital Asset Index Fund on Tuesday.

Morgan Creek Digital, the digital asset management arm of Morgan Creek Capital Management, is partnering with Bitwise on the fund.

“The Digital Asset Index Fund securely tracks the largest investable digital assets and provides approximately 75% coverage of total digital asset market capitalization,” according to Bitwise and Morgan Creek Digital.

The new fund tracks the Morgan Creek Bitwise Digital Asset Index and is managed by Bitwise.

“The Digital Asset Index Fund combines Bitwise’s best-in-class quantitative index rules and professional fund management with the ongoing oversight of an index committee including Mark Yusko, Morgan Creek CIO and former UNC Endowment CIO, as well as Anthony Pompliano, Partner at Morgan Creek Digital, and Bitwise Global Head of Research Matt Hougan,” according to a statement issued by the firms.

Digital Asset Index Fund

Bitwise launched the first privately-offered cryptocurrency index fund, the HOLD 10 Private Index Fund, on November 22, 2017. The fund is a private placement vehicle that is open to accredited investors and offers weekly liquidity.

The new Digital Asset Index Fund uses a market-cap-weighted methodology to offer exposure to the 10 largest digital currencies. Bitcoin and ethereum combine for 85% of the new fund’s weight while Bitcoin Cash and EOS combine for 8.4%, according to issuer data. Litecoin, Dash and Monero are among the other digital currencies represented in the fund.

The new fund “is available to approved institutional investors and accredited investors, including endowments, foundations, pensions, wealthy families, and sovereign wealth funds,” according to the statement.

Bitwise is backed by leading institutional and individual investors, including Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, Blockchain Capital, Naval Ravikant, David Sacks, Elad Gil, Adam Nash, Adam Ludwin, Suna Said, and Avichal Garg. The firm is a partner to individuals, financial advisors, family offices, investment managers, and institutions in navigating cryptocurrency. The team behind Bitwise has expertise in technology, security, and finance, and is headquartered in San Francisco.
