Looking for Opportunity in Colombia

In recent years, Colombia’s production growth turned it into South America’s third-largest oil producer behind Brazil and OPEC member Venezuela. However, some of Colombia’s headline-making oil finds have not been as lucrative as previously hoped and Ecopetrol lacks the offshore heft to compete with other major global integrated oil companies.

However, for now, many investors are cutting their losses as outflows from emerging markets ETFs continue at a blistering pace. “The Santos government is pursuing an aggressive infrastructure plan. The odds of success of the rural elements of this strategy will be greatly improved if development plans are free from guerilla attacks,” according to the Seeking Alpha analysis of Colombian economics.
