Covered Call ETF to Close

Exchange Traded Concepts said Wednesday it will shutter the Horizons Financial Select Sector Covered Call ETF (NYSEArca: HFIN).

“The last day of trading of the Fund’s shares on the NYSE Arca will be March 20, 2015. Shareholders may sell Fund shares through a broker in the standard manner through this date. Customary brokerage charges may apply to such transactions. The Fund will be closed to new investors as of March 20, 2015. Between March 23, 2015 and March 26, 2015, the Fund will be in the process of liquidating its portfolio assets,” according to a statement.

HFIN tracks the S&P 500 Financial Select Sector Stock Covered Call Index, which sells or “writes” covered call options on up to 100% of securities in the portfolio with a goal of generating monthly income. [A Covered Call ETF Helps Boost Your Income]

The ETF, which debuted in November 2013, has $4.11 million in assets under management.

The pace of announced ETF closures has picked up a bit this week. On Tuesday, State Street’s (NYSE: STT) State Street Global Advisors unit, said it will close the SPDR S&P Mortgage Finance ETF (NYSEArca: KME), SPDR S&P Small Cap Emerging Asia Pacific ETF (NYSEArca: GMFS) and the SPDR S&P VRDO Municipal Bond ETF (NYSEArca: VRD) later this month.

In 2014, approximately 80 ETFs closed while issuers brought nearly 205 new products to market. This year, about 20 U.S. ETFs have been closed.
