Euro Debt ETF to Close

The new year has its first announcement of an exchange traded fund closure as WisdomTree (NasdaqGS: WETF) said earlier Thursday it will liquidate the WisdomTree Euro Debt Fund (NYSEArca: EU).

EU’s “final day of trading on the NYSE Arca will be February 11, 2015. Shareholders who do not sell their Fund shares by this date will have their shares automatically redeemed for cash at the net asset value as of February 18, 2015, the Fund’s last day of operations,” said WisdomTree in a statement.

EU, which debuted in May 2008, has just $4.2 million in assets under management. The ETF holds euro-denominated bonds.

EU will not be the first ETF to close this year. ProShares, the largest issuer of inverse and leveraged exchange traded funds, is closing 17 of its geared ETFs today, but the firm made that announcement late last year. [ProShares to Close 17 ETFs]

In 2014, approximately 70 ETFs closed while issuers brought nearly 205 new products to market. WisdomTree last closed an ETF in December 2012 when it shuttered three funds.
