Matt Hougan, president of ETF.com, joined ETF Trends Publisher Tom Lydon at the Morningstar ETF Conference in Chicago to discuss some of the hot themes in the world of exchange traded funds, including the exponential growth of smart beta ETFs.
“I’ve been shocked by how deep that (smart beta growth) has penetrated into advisors,” said Hougan. “Advisors used to be index purists and they’re now buying smart beta ETFs.”
Hougan also discussed the implications of the growth of the tactical ETF strategist space, noting that the space is currently difficult to evaluate.
Hougan said he expects to see further growth for smart beta and currency hedged ETFs.
