Investors should rely entirely on seasonality in selecting ETFs. That much was proven in September when the Utilities Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLU) and the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLP), usually best of the nine SPDRs in the ninth month of the year, disappointed. XLP was flat while XLU lost 2.7%.
According to CXO, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (NYSEArca: XLV) and XLU are usually the worst SPDRs in October.
