Newfound Research has hired Andrew Gogerty to further develop the firm’s line of exchange traded fund managed portfolios as competition heats up among ETF strategists in this segment of the separate accounts space.

Andrew Gogerty, currently an ETF Managed Portfolio Specialist for Morningstar, will serve in Newfound’s investment team and in business development, sales and marketing, with a focus on research, product development, thought leadership and education, beginning March 17, according to a press release.

“We are extremely proud of the tremendous growth that we have experienced in recent years,” Tom Rosedale, CEO of Newfound, said in the press release. “The success of these strategies, and of our partners, has afforded up the opportunity to quickly expand our national reach and offer our unique investment strategies to a broad community of advisors and institutional platforms. We are thrilled to have Andy on board, bringing with him an unparalleled level of expertise in the ETF strategist and quantitative research space that will be invaluable as we continue to expand our offerings and our reach.”

Gogerty helped establish the industry’s preeminent research platform for ETF managed portfolios.

Assets in ETF managed portfolios tracked by Morningstar have increased 40% over 2013, writes Gogerty for Morningstar. There were 648 strategies from 153 firms with a collective $96 billion in assets as of the end of 2013.

ETF managed portfolios are investment strategies that have over 50% of portfolio assets invested in ETFs. The portfolios are available as separate accounts. Money managers have been packaging customized portfolios of ETFs into broader investment strategies to meet changing investor and advisor needs.

“The ETF managed portfolio space has been on a strong growth trajectory in recent years,” Gogerty said. “Within this universe, Newfound stands out among the rest with a unique culture, a focus on investment excellence, radical transparency of its thought leadership and a true track record for innovation. Newfound has already had a material impact in this space, and I’m excited to join a firm that has the expertise and vision to change the way advisors and key decision makers help investors succeed.”
