Investors Glossing Over Growth ETFs...Sort Of

Then again, some popular ETFs with “growth” in their names are home to some surprising holdings. For example, VUG’s top-10 holdings include Amazon (NasdaqGM: AMZN) and Google (NasdaqGM: GOOG), growth stocks to be sure, but the ETF is also home to Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) and Phillip Morris (NYSE: PM), the epitome of value plays.

The top-10 holdings in the rival iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF (NYSEArca: IWF) also include Google and Amazon, but that $21.6 billion ETF is also home to Coca-Cola, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP), among other value plays. IWF is up 58.3% this year, but its value equivalent, the iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (NYSEArca: IWD), is higher by 61.5%.
