More investors and advisors are turning to exchange traded fund managers, or ETF strategists, to find the best strategy for their investment goals.

ETF Trends’ Tom Lydon met with Todd Clarke, Chief Executive Officer at CLS Investments LLC, and Robbie Cannon, President & CEO of Horizon Investments, to discuss the growing ETF managed portfolio space and how they are helping financial advisors.

“We offer free solution sets, so for accumulation, risk mitigation and retirement spending products,” Cannon said.

“Advisors come to us looking for certain type of money management strategy,” Clarke said. “We determine a client’s risk level, and then we manage the assets according to that risk level.”

The managed portfolios just wouldn’t work the way that they do without the ETF investment vehicle.

“The real interesting thing about ETFs, as an industry, is that you can get capacity, liquidity, you can trade them readily,” Cannon said. “[It’s] very different from how mutual funds were packed ten years ago.”

“ETFs are perfect for us because it allows us to surgically allocate our client portfolio across a variety of asset classes and do it in a tax efficient, cheap manner,” Clarke added.
