iShares' New ETF Portfolio Guide Is an Industry First | ETF Trends

Barclays Global Investors, one of the world’s largest exchange traded fund (ETF) providers, has issued the industry’s first resource for financial advisors who are looking for ETF portfolios.

The guide identifies third-party managers who offer model portfolios that are at least 75% constructed of ETFs. Barclays is the name behind the iShares and iPath product lines.

Sue Thompson, managing director at Barclays, says that many of the portfolios are active, but some also follow a tactical allocation strategy, while others target a particular niche. Barclays will begin gathering information for its next edition of the guide when the current quarter closes, Thompson says.

“It’s a good thing to do for the industry,” she says. “This book can be a terrific resource. We’re very excited about it.”

The “ETF Managed Solutions Guide” has more than 30 third-party managers, and iShares expects to add more as more managers build such portfolios. The guide also includes information on each firm’s investment philosophy, portfolio management team, portfolio objective, performance history, top holdings, as well as asset class and sector weights.
