Indexes-the more askew from traditional weighting the better!? The crazy surge of exchange traded funds (ETFs) that divert from market capitalization have become all the rage. David Hoffman of InvestmentNews reports indexes that weigh stocks on factors other than market capitalization began growing in popularity a couple years ago when ETF providers started to look around for new indexes upon which to build new ETFs. Advocates of such indexes believe they provide better performance. Of course, these new indexes come with some true risk one must be aware of. Time and performance are the only measure of risk in these cases.
