Verizon (VZ) and BellSouth (BLS) are two of the top holdings in the exchange traded fund iShares Dow Jones U.S. Telecom (IYZ). These two companies deny allegations made in a USA Today article, that they turned phone records over to the National Security Agency nor were they asked to provide information. AT&T (T), another top holding in the ETF, is the sole company named in the article not to deny the allegations.
The news along with consumer lawsuits has had some affect on IYZ.
