I am in and out whenever my strategy tells me to. And I am really stick to it! So my strategy: buy when EMA5 crosses over EMA40 with a little of personal trend analysis. Sell when profit reacjes 30% or stoploss at 8%. I am mosly using Leveraged ETF since they are faster. Last profits: BX4, BXX, SKF, FXP, FAZ and TZA. I am investing from Europe, but keeping and eye only on ETF traded on NYSE/ARCA and Euronext Paris. Now I am all in cash since that is what my stategy teels me to.

Mostly in cash but recently as things were looking up I added to my Vanguard Health Care Fund & VG Energy Fund. Of course, that may have been premature. Big problem with those moves (1% redemption fee if held less than 1 year). In this market it is best to stay away from the few funds which have those restrictions. Also have VG Tips fund, VG Precious Metals & Mining fund, VG High-yield Corporate fund. Mostly cash w/ VG Prime MM fund (all self-directed IRA) Also a taxable acct. w/VG High-yield Tax-Exempt fund. Within the IRA I have a brokerage acct. & own DBA etf (big loser) Could have lost only 8% if I had known better, but am still holding. Most interestingly, about 10 months ago I moved some money from my Vanguard IRA to Wells Fargo (WellsTrade IRA Brokerage Acct.) With 100 free trades per year per account I have been buying/selling etfs with them. At present time all cash at WellsTrade. Was stopped out recently with FXY, XBI, & even GLD. I really believe a person could do fine by utilizing ETF Trends simple, simple strategies.

Sadly, I have very little devoted to cash at the moment. Hindsight is always 20-20, so I'm going to go through my portfolio over the weekend and write up a Mea Culpa on how I could/should have done it differently...aka should have sold out of MUTUAL FUNDS at a profit instead of a LOSS!
I'm grateful to have found this site on ETFs. Near-term objective: I plan on learning a lot so that I can actively manage my portfolios in accordance w/ trends and momentum.

Are you in cash and waiting it out on the sidelines? If so, how long have you been there?

If you're in the markets, where are you right now?
