Retail ETF Is In Season | ETF Trends

If you have a retail exchange traded fund (ETF), then you’ll be interested in the countdown to December 25th. Historically, "Black Friday" or the day after Thanksgiving, officially marks the holiday shopping season. The holiday season is where 25-40% of all sales are made, according to Andrew Corn of Seeking Alpha.  This year consumers plan to spend most of their budget on clothing, accessories and gift cards; more so than on toys, games and sporting goods.

Retail ETFs include PowerShares Dynamic Retail (PMR), SPDR Retail (XRT) and HOLDRs Retail (RTH).  Be careful when looking at these three ETFs, as their top holdings are quite different as well as their weightings.
