Using ETFs for Global Gains | ETF Trends

Carl Delfeld of Chartwell Advisor provides some interesting statistics about global trends and how investors can take advantage of these opportunities using exchange traded funds. 

To highlight a few:

  • The U.S. has not been the world’s best stock market in 16 years – S&P 500 is up 3.4% for 2006;
  • Japan’s trade with China is greater than its trade with America – iShares MSCI Japan Index (EWJ), up 10% year-to-date;
  • The least expensive places in the world to conduct business are Canada and Singapore – iShares MSCI Canada Index (EWC) and iShares MSCI Singapore Index (EWS), with 2006 gains of 13% and 20% respectively;
  • The Brazil stock market is up 100% in the last 12 months – iShares MSCI Brazil Index (EWZ);
  • 40% of the world’s wealth is in Europe, and while Germany’s economy is flat, the German ETF is up 20% this year – iShares MSCI Germany Index (EWG).
