Mazza on the Growth of Smart Beta ETFs

State Street Global Advisors Vice President and head of research Dave Mazza joined ETF Trends Publisher Tom Lydon at the Morningstar ETF Conference in Chicago to talk about the growth of smart beta exchange traded funds and State Street’s newly minted group of ETFs that focus on the quality factor.

Mazza notes that smart beta ETFs allow advisors to implement active management in a passive format and that smart beta funds offer a “best of both worlds” approach.

Earlier this year, State Street (NYSE: STT) partnered with leading index provider MSCI to launch the SPDR MSCI World Quality Mix ETF (NYSEArca: QWLD), SPDR MSCI EAFE Quality Mix ETF (NYSEArca: QEFA) and SPDR MSCI Emerging Markets Quality Mix ETF (NYSEArca: QEMM).

State Street followed those launches with six single-country developed market ETFs focused on the quality factor. Last month, State Street further expanded its quality factor single-country lineup with the introduction of three ETFs.
