Most investors focus on gold and bullion-related exchange traded funds in the precious metals space, but there arel also ETF options that cover white metals as well.
ETF Trends’ Tom Lydon sat down with Garrett Smith, senior vice president of institutional sales for ETF Securities, to discuss precious metals like silver, platinum and palladium.
While many people tend to throw these precious metals into the same group of investments as gold, the individual metals will act very differently. Notably, silver, platinum and palladium have a very large industrial component.
“If you think of gold, it’s been the ultimate hedge and event risk really since the beginning of time,” Smith said. “But if you look at the current investment thesis for what we like to call ‘pro-cyclical growth metals’ – silver, platinum, palladium. We like the supply and demand dynamics right there.”
