4161798700 For the month of April, exchange traded fund (ETF) assets and numbers notched another increase.

The total amount of assets in ETFs at the end of April stood at $596 billion, reports the Investment Company Institute, a 27.7% increase over April 2007.

The number of ETFs available stood at 660, a 38.9% jump from April 2007, when there were 475 funds.

One of the more notable areas of increase is in the number of bond ETFs, which ballooned 180% in one year. For April 2007, there were just 20 such funds, but at the end of April this year, there were 56.

This doesn’t include the recent bond ETF closings that were announced last week, which will liquidate on June 19.
