Irish Green ETF

Lepper Over the past year there has been more discussion and more exchange traded funds (ETFs) focusing on "green" investing.  All the green talk is about less pollution, more energy saving companies, carbon credits and so on.  But there is one big green shamrock missing – an Ireland ETF!

If you are planning to celebrate the luck of the Irish today, you’ll probably raise your glass of Guinness, but wait, Guinness is part of Diageo, a global company based in London.  There is a closed-end fund, the New Ireland Fund (IRL), which was up 69.9% in 2006 and is down slightly for this year.

Perhaps the ETF providers will follow the leprechaun to the pot of gold and we’ll have an Irish ETF for next St. Patrick’s Day!
