Exchange traded funds (ETFs) not only offer investment options, they also offer information. Some of the biggest market sectors are revealed after looking over the top performing ETFs in the last 6 months.

Donald Gold of Investor’s Business Daily reports real estate investment trusts, or REIT, ETFs make up four of the top ten. Surprising since the news talks about a slowdown in the housing market.  Commercial property has actually held up and is a completely different market from the housing sector.  These four ETFs, iShares Cohen and Steers Realty Majors (ICF), Vanguard REIT Index (VNQ), streetTRACKS Wilshire (RWR) and iShares Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate (IYR) all held shares of very successful REITs in commercial property.
