Prepare for the Giant Wave of ETFs

With almost 400 exchange traded funds (ETFs) in registration, it’s easy to see why it can be difficult to keep up with this rapidly growing industry. Matt Hougan for Index Universe did an excellent job dissecting these possible upcoming ETFs:
- 165 leveraged
- 84 international equity
- 75 domestic equity
- 35 fixed income
- 21 commodity
- 16 REITs
- 1 timber
While it’s doubtful all the leveraged ETFs will launch, that category’s high numbers show where consumer interest lies. It’s also no surprise that the second highest filings are within the international arena, considering how popular that’s been lately. Time will tell which ones get SEC approval and when investors can start adding them to their portfolios.
