Bnd_etf_2 One of Vanguard’s key players against its exchange traded fund (ETF) rival Barclays is the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND). BND holds more than 3,500 issues compared to some bond ETFs that hold about 150, making it extremely diversified, explains Jim Wiandt for Index Universe.

Another advantage of BND is that with an expense ratio of just 0.11%, it’s cheaper than most bond ETFs and has given a stronger performance, so far. BND just launched in April and is up 2.0% for the last three months.
